Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his architectural shapes and dramatic aesthetics, such as the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his newest line in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," in the words of the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating ensembles for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles mourns the loss to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
