Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot stated.

“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Discussions with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction

Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with performances so bad.”

Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
