Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS.

Behind three runs to one, Springer smashed a three-run home run in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the anticipated championship.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, the city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "What an unbelievable moment."

The veteran has now connected for twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment besides him with his October magic," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.

Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this one," he added.

Toronto won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
