How these Denver Broncos and the 'play-dough' quarterback can end that Chiefs' reign.

NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates includes live text of the weekend matchups via various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, audio coverage is available on select stations for another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six of the football calendar and following last week's discussion regarding two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both surrendered their perfect starts.
Notable during those contests was the number of infractions both committed. Philadelphia committed them in key moments so they essentially beat themselves after leading 17-3 entering the final quarter against Denver, who play in London this Sunday.
But it proved good to see that Denver quarterback Bo Nix was able to have that deficit before lead three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the victory by four points.
The Broncos have the defensive player of the year with cornerback Pat Surtain II. They rank number one in goal-line defense, while the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, and the Broncos won that battle.
They had the Eagles' number in terms of disguised blitzes. They did not always rushing extra defenders instead they might plug two linebackers in the interior then withdrawing them and dispatch a slot defender off the edge.
At the start of the season, it was noted on a program that the Broncos might emerge as this season's surprise contenders. They finished last season well then excelled in continuing that momentum.
Are the Denver Broncos this year's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE Evan Engram has excelled significantly and recent RB JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He's currently 5th in the NFL for rushing yards (402) as well as tied for fourth in rushing scores (four).
It's impressive that the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" prominently on his call sheet.
That shows that Denver are a team that wants to run first, because one can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush while maintains in favourable situations.
It's also benefited quarterback Bo Nix, who entered the NFL as a first-round selection in the prior draft, passing for 29 touchdown passes – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to pass anywhere, however they lack the mobility that Nix has. He boasts incredible arm talent, which is different, and he is highly agile.
His assets are his movement, being able to throw on the run, as well as using varied release points to deliver the pass when he rolls out of the pocket, on rollouts. He is able to deliver precision throws across the middle or past defenders.
As a rookie QB, aged 25, he displays a lot of poise under pressure and is not really fazed by extra rushers. He aims to avoid a sack whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He has a high football IQ and is quick to decide.
When you consistently rush it eats up the clock and forces the opponent to stay on the field extended periods, and if you've got a mobile QB the defense must cover the field vertically side to side. It can be draining.
The quarterback has bitten back with the coach during games at times and it seems Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's fun for the coach to have a young quarterback who's kind of like play-dough. He can truly develop him the way he desires to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach owns a championship and now passed a legend in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen it all. I think the success Denver are having offensively is largely due to his guidance, his schemes, his situational awareness – and the pairing with Nix helps make him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a better guy guiding you, to help you through difficult moments and boost self-belief.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet are they good enough to go against a top squad at its best? Because that was not a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Currently, I don't think the Broncos are incredible. They're working better than most, that's a solid position to hold their division. The key to do to continue this path.
They're really good at embracing their forte, that is the ground game, and this is precisely what they should do against the New York Jets in London. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
The Jets have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns this season (in the bottom ten), and they're the only team without a win any game.
Ever since the NFL started recording turnovers decades ago, this team are the first team to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is surprising when you think that the head coach was previously a defensive coach at the Detroit Lions.
Patrick Mahomes stated Kansas City are off to a poor start after Monday's defeat by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, the Broncos have a manageable slate until their break (in week 12) - the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans plus Las Vegas Raiders prior to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Looking at their division, Kansas City hold a losing record and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 so they could make a run for the top of the division.
This hinges on what version of the Chiefs they face since Denver {beat|def
