Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the missiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
