The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the errors of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
