The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
