The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing replay systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the option to question specific decisions made by the chair umpire, following the practice already in operation at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This move comes just a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of reviews a competitor can request.
Practical Application
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Further Updates
A further innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where the crowd have occasionally been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
